Eagles’ Haven Update

Eagles’ Haven Update

Apr 5, 2019 | Announcements, News

We are proudly completing our second week since the opening of Eagles’ Haven, a wellness center created solely to provide support, education and wellness activities to current, former and future MSD students, family members and faculty. At the request of the community we happily opened our center and support programs a month earlier than planned and have welcomed close to 200 visitors who are coming by to check out the center and we are already providing support to dozens of families, students and teachers.

Eagles’ Haven is the one place to call or stop by if you need help with support or wellness needs, a quick question or a family crisis. While we are not a therapy center, our staff are trained trauma clinicians who can listen to your needs and connect those interested in seeking therapy with a qualified therapist in the community. We are so honored to meet each and every person who has come in for a visit and a cup of coffee and we are inspired by the strength of the MSD community and everyone’s desire to rediscover wellness and restore hope to the community, which is not going to be easy but is the ultimate goal of the center and this community. We were happy to respond to a request made by teachers for 170 bags of back to school healthy snacks for Monday morning, one for each classroom and our JAFCO support system is collecting additional supplies requested by teachers to have on hand for their students. Thanks to our Parkland/South Palm Beach Chapter President Tami Isenberg for leading this effort and anyone wishing to assist can contact Tami ti123mom@gmail.com. We have also met with the media and sent a written request to all of the major local media bureau chiefs to select alternate locations other than the school for any media coverage. We were also proud to welcome Jon Faber who has been a frequent visitor streaming live from our center letting his parent group know we are open and making great suggestions for informal parent support nights; also we have been honored to welcome the leadership of the March for Our Lives Foundation and Parkland Cares to our center and appreciate their desire to support our efforts as well as the leadership of the City of Parkland and Coral Springs, and of course our amazing funders ‐ the Children’s Services Council and United Way of Broward County.

Thanks to our pro bono amazing wellness provider Livewell1440, our wellness activities are scheduled to begin as promised at the end of April and include yoga, kickboxing, breathing and relaxation, stretching, acupuncture, chair massage, pet therapy, healthy eating, smoothie making, drumming, bootcamp, open mic and game nights, and more. Suggestions are welcome so please let us know if you have a great idea. Support groups for teachers, parents and students will begin in the next few weeks so please check in on Facebook, Instagram or on our website. Thank you for your patience as our center is transformed into a mountain themed space over the next month courtesy of our pro bono amazing designer Louis Cohen. Thank you to IKEA for the emergency furnishings and to City Furniture who just promised to donate $5000 in new furnishings to make our space comfortable and beautiful, we are so grateful. Thank you to Valley Forge for our window coverings and Image 360 for offering free signage. Anyone wishing to lead a wellness activity should apply on our website asap and anyone with any questions should attend our information session on April 9 at 6:30 at the P-Rec Center in Parkland, please see our website home page to RSVP.

Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for helping us bring Eagles’ Haven to life.
